In other Syanpse news ...

In addition to keeping the Panik House and Casa Negra titles in print Synapse continues to release weird gems on their own and the latest sounds very interesting, though we know nothing about it.
It's a French horror from 1980 called NIGHT OF DEATH and considering how we feel about French horror (we are pretty obsessed with it - Rollin, Mercier, EYES WITHOUT A FACE, SEVEN WOMEN FOR SATAN, THE BLOOD ROSE etc.) this is one we will certainly keep an eye out for. It is unleashed upon the world near Halloween on October 27th.
But what's it all about? If anyone knows anything about the movie or it's makers please let us know!
Here's the awesome cover (provided by the DVD Aficionado website):

Checked that imdb link for NIGHT OF DEATH and was pleased to see that "Georges Lucas" is among the cast members. The director of STARS WARS?

It would probably be his best film credit if it was him.

It's a cool clip. French horror just has such a unique and bizarre feel to it. Much different than Italian or Spanish, more abstact and poetic (how very French of them!) and less defined by the stict perimeters of the genre. Too bad they didn't make more of them in those days.

Yeah, French horror has a very different feel to them. And Night of Death seems like very gory as well. Haven't seen many ''over the top'' gory flicks from France! Yeah, I know about Martyrs, Haute Tension, Frontier(s) and so one, but I ment in the 70's and 80's. At least not that I've seen.

Yeah, the only "gore" films I can think of from that era are Rollin's GRAPES OF DEATH and LIVING DEAD GIRL. And I believe both had technicians imported from Spain or Italy. Gore effects were/are expensive and tricky to pull off and it would seem France had no tradition or even much inclination for such things.
